We had an amazing time recording student interviews for Handshake at London Broadcast on Harrowby Street. The venue provided an ideal environment—a professional setting with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, making it the perfect space for both structured filming and candid storytelling.

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Shoot
The goal of the day was to capture authentic student experiences with Handshake, highlighting how the platform has supported them in their career journeys. Students were first briefed by Clare Adams, who introduced them to the new features coming to the Handshake app. This gave them a solid understanding of the platform’s latest innovations before they stepped in front of the camera.

Once briefed, students were interviewed by Bethany Spencer, who guided them through a series of questions related to their career services experience, challenges they faced, and how Handshake has played a role in their professional development. Meanwhile, Peter Shevlin directed the shoot, ensuring that each student was comfortable in front of the green screen, standing in the right position and delivering their responses confidently.
Bringing Out Authentic Student Stories
Standing under the lights and speaking on camera can be a daunting experience, especially for those not used to it. However, it was truly inspiring to see how many students gained confidence over their 20-minute interviews. As they became more comfortable, their responses became genuine, heartfelt, and engaging. Many opened up about their personal journeys—how they navigated career challenges, overcame self-doubt, and leveraged Handshake to find internships and even secure full-time jobs.

The diversity of student stories brought a unique richness to the shoot. Each interview was a reminder of why career services and job-search platforms like Handshake are so vital, providing students with the tools, guidance, and connections they need to take their first steps into the professional world.
A Fun and Rewarding Experience
Overall, the shoot was a fantastic experience, not just for the students but for our crew as well. There was a great energy throughout the day, and it was rewarding to see students walk away feeling heard and empowered.

This is definitely a project we’d love to shoot again, and we can’t wait to share these incredible student reactions with a wider audience!
